DESIGN
The Bradbury Early Learning Centre was designed around landscape connection, natural light and efficient site planning within a constrained urban setting.
Large glazed sections connect learning rooms directly with outdoor play areas, strengthening visual connection to landscape while providing natural light and passive supervision.
The relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces improves internal amenity, natural ventilation and access to greenery, creating comfortable and engaging learning environments.
Landscaped outdoor play areas are integrated around the building, while an environmentally responsive roof form incorporates solar generation and reduces the perceived building mass.
The combination of glazing, landscape and articulated roof forms creates a lighter residential-scale response to the streetscape, supporting the development approval process while reinforcing Armada Architects’ design-led approach to early learning environments.
OUR ROLE
Armada Architects was appointed architect for the Bradbury Early Learning Centre in South Western Sydney, providing architectural design and development application documentation within a developer and project manager-led delivery team.
Located on a constrained 1,733 m² urban site, the project delivers a purpose-built 104-place early learning centre accommodating six learning rooms, 17 staff and 26 on-site parking spaces. Armada developed the architectural response in accordance with the project brief, operational requirements and planning framework established by the wider project team.
The development required careful resolution of building scale, site planning, parking and circulation, residential interface impacts and the relationship between indoor and outdoor learning environments. Extensive glazing, direct landscape connections and opportunities for natural light and ventilation were embedded into the architectural response, while the roof design reduces perceived bulk to the streetscape and provides opportunities for integrated solar power generation.
Working under the direction of the developer and project manager, Armada Architects prepared the architectural design and DA documentation and incorporated specialist consultant requirements into the developing design. Services included concept design, site planning, floor plan development, architectural documentation and design responses required through the development approval process.
The Bradbury Early Learning Centre responds to the National Construction Code (NCC), Education and Care Services National Regulations and relevant planning requirements, reflecting Armada’s specialist expertise in childcare architecture, constrained urban sites and commercially responsive early learning environments.
